The Way I See It
When Progress Feels Like a Step Back
I was reminded recently how the things that help us grow rarely feel comfortable in the moment.
In business, I see it all the time.
- Spending time on your marketing plan can make you feel behind on “real work,” when it is actually what keeps future work coming in.
- Asking customers for feedback can make you feel nervous, when it is actually giving you the roadmap to serve them better.
- Trying a new campaign can make you feel unsure, when it is actually how you discover what really works.
The uncomfortable part happens now. The payoff shows up later.
Here’s the way I see it: if something feels a little risky but clearly moves you toward better communication with your customers, it is probably worth doing, and your future self will be glad you did.

How to Make Your Print Materials Drive More Sales
IS YOUR PRINT PULLING ITS WEIGHT?

If your brochures, flyers, or sales sheets look great but aren’t driving results, it’s time to take a closer look.
Print collateral isn’t just about design; it’s a sales tool. Every piece should have a clear job to do: open doors, build trust, or help close deals. Here’s how to make sure your materials are pulling their weight.

Start With Strategy, Not Design
Before creating or refreshing your materials, decide what each piece is supposed to accomplish.
A capabilities brochure might introduce your brand, while a product sheet supports decision-making. When each printed item has a clear purpose, you can measure its impact more accurately.

Equip Your Team to Use It Well
Even strong collateral falls flat if your team doesn’t know how or when to use it.
Provide quick reference sheets or short talking points so sales and service reps understand where each piece fits in the conversation. The right print at the right moment can turn interest into action.

Focus on the Buyer’s Problem, Not Your Product
The most effective materials start with the customer’s challenge, not your features.
Lead with what they need solved, show how you help, and close with a next step. When your print speaks to real-world pain points, it becomes a persuasive, problem-solving tool—not just information.

Keep It Consistent and Current
Mixed messages or outdated visuals make your business look out of sync.
Align your print with your website, social channels, and presentations so every touchpoint tells the same story. Review your materials at least once a year to update pricing, imagery, or messaging.

Measure What Matters
Tracking print results doesn’t have to be a mystery.
Use QR codes, personalized URLs, or campaign-specific phone numbers to see which materials generate inquiries or sales. Those insights show which pieces work hardest—and where to refine for next time.
When your print materials are built with purpose and measured for performance, they stop being handouts and start becoming powerful tools that move your business forward.

Always Tell Them What to Do Next
A lot of great-looking postcards, brochures, and flyers forget one important detail: they never clearly say what the recipient should do next. The message might be interesting, but if there is no clear next step, people smile, set it down, and move on.
Before you create any new piece, decide on one main action you want: call, visit, scan a code, RSVP, bring the card, or download something. Then write it in simple, specific language and make it easy to spot. “Call to schedule your free consultation,” “Scan this code to see samples,” or “Bring this postcard in by May 31 to save” are much stronger than a vague “Learn more.”
If you are not sure whether your call to action is clear enough, hand the piece to someone who has never seen it and ask, “What is this asking you to do?” If they hesitate, tighten the wording or simplify the choices until the answer comes out in one sentence.

Step-and-Repeat Event Backdrop Banners
TURN ANY CORNER INTO A PHOTO-READY SPOTLIGHT FOR YOUR BRAND.
You don’t need a red carpet to give your next event a “big stage” feel. A step-and-repeat backdrop banner can turn any wall, corner, or booth into a branded photo zone.
These large banners are printed with repeating logos or graphics and mounted on a stand behind people or products. They work beautifully at open houses, fundraisers, conferences, and award nights; anywhere guests are likely to take photos. Every picture shared online quietly spreads your logo a little farther.
Backdrops are lightweight, reusable, and easy to set up. You can keep the design simple with just your logo, or add a tagline, event name, or sponsor marks. Either way, they give your space a polished look and help your brand show up in every snapshot.
If you would like ideas or samples for a step-and-repeat backdrop banner for your next event, we would be glad to help.

Use ChatGPT to Test If Your Message Is Clear
LET AI ACT AS A QUICK "TEST READER" BEFORE YOU HIT PRINT.
When you work on a postcard or brochure for too long, it gets hard to see it with fresh eyes. That is where a tool like ChatGPT can help. Instead of asking it to write your piece, you can use it to test whether your message is clear.
Copy and paste your draft into ChatGPT and ask a question like, “If you received this, what would you think it’s asking you to do next?” or “What is the main message you take away from this?” If it instantly identifies the correct call to action and main point, you are probably in good shape. If it hesitates or gets confused, your real readers might, too.
Use that feedback to tighten your headline, simplify your wording, or highlight your call to action before you send the file to print. It is a fast, low-effort way to double-check clarity so your message lands the way you intend.
